Zurich Airport’s Skymetro will operate at reduced capacity from November 3, 2026, as its second and final modernisation phase begins. The airport says replacement buses will supplement the train during daily peak periods.
What changes for Dock E passengers
The Skymetro links the Airside Centre with Dock E. One tunnel will close for the work, while trains continue through the tunnel already upgraded in the first phase. The airport remains operational.
Passengers using Dock E should follow the airport’s directions for the available train and peak-time bus services. The October 30 announcement gives no specific additional transfer time, so travellers should not assume a fixed delay or a complete train shutdown.
Expected to continue until May 2027
The second phase is expected to last until May 2027. That is the airport’s forecast, rather than a confirmed reopening day.
The project upgrades control and drive systems and replaces three-car formations with four-car trains. The first phase finished in June 2026. Once both tunnels are complete, the airport expects capacity to increase from 8,000 to 10,000 passengers an hour in each direction.
