About 46,000 Singapore Airlines booking records were affected by unauthorised access involving reservation-technology provider Amadeus, according to an airline statement reported by CNA on November 3. Singapore Airlines says its own IT systems were not breached.

The figure counts booking records, rather than establishing the number of individual customers affected.

What information was involved?

CNA’s November 3 report says the accessed information included names, booking references, travel itineraries and booking classes.

For about 620 booking records, additional information including email addresses, telephone numbers, travel-document details and KrisFlyer membership numbers may also have been accessed, the airline said.

According to CNA, Amadeus confirmed that bank-account and credit-card information was not exposed and that the unauthorised access did not change bookings. These are the companies’ reported assessments of the incident.

Singapore Airlines is changing some booking references

The carrier says it is contacting affected customers with upcoming travel to change their booking references as a precaution.

Practical checks for passengers

Open the airline’s official website or app directly to check your reservation and any messages about it. If a booking reference has changed, keep the updated details with your travel documents and check that you can retrieve the itinerary.

A message that unexpectedly asks for payment, a password or a travel-document scan deserves a separate check through the airline’s published contact channels. Avoid posting booking references or documents publicly while seeking help.

Flyzeu’s reports on Cathay Pacific’s Amadeus notice and Malaysia Airlines’ advisory cover separate disclosures. Their totals and data categories should not be substituted for Singapore Airlines’ figures.
