Ryanair passengers checking bags will need to hand them over at least 60 minutes before scheduled departure from November 10, 2026. The airline issued a reminder on October 27 ahead of the change from its current 40-minute cutoff.

What changes on November 10?

The new deadline applies to airport check-in and bag drop across Ryanair’s network. It brings closure forward by 20 minutes. Ryanair announced the policy in April; this is a reminder of an approaching change, rather than a new rule taking effect today.

For a flight scheduled to leave at 14:00, the new cutoff is 13:00. A passenger reaching bag drop at 13:10 would already be too late, even though departure is still 50 minutes away. Plan time for the queue before the desk closes.

Who needs to adjust their plans?

Passengers with hold luggage should allow time to complete bag drop before the deadline. Ryanair says the change gives them more time for security and passport control afterwards. The airline’s chief marketing officer, Dara Brady, urged passengers to arrive in good time.

Passengers who check in online and have no bag to check are unaffected by this particular bag-drop change. They must still meet the requirements for their flight.

Online check-in is a separate step

Ryanair’s help centre says online check-in closes two hours before scheduled departure. Having a boarding pass on your phone does not mean a checked bag has been accepted. Online check-in, bag drop and boarding are separate stages.

Check your booking and airline instructions before travelling, including any document checks. Treat the closing time as the deadline to finish handing over your bag, rather than a target arrival time at the terminal.
