KLM will replace planned Airbus A320 aircraft with smaller Embraer E195-E2s in its European fleet, while retaining the A321neo, the airline announced on November 5.
The change gives KLM Cityhopper a larger role. Boeing 737s and Embraer E190s are to leave over the coming years; the statement gives no aircraft-by-aircraft delivery timetable.
Staffing changes include transfers
KLM links the plan to another €1 billion in annual earnings improvement. Around 5,000 positions involve work being reorganised, including outsourcing and transfers within Air France-KLM. Productivity improvements account for approximately 1,000 fewer positions. Those categories should not be added together as a total of dismissals.
What this means for travellers
This is a fleet and organisation plan, not a flight-cancellation notice. Check the aircraft and operating airline shown on your booking as schedules evolve.
