October 29, 2026: Four personnel died and eleven were injured when an Italian CH-47 Chinook helicopter crashed during routine training near Brčko in Bosnia and Herzegovina, EUFOR said in its latest official statement.

The European Union force identified the location as the Gorice area near Brčko. It said all eleven injured personnel were in a stable condition at the time of its update.

What EUFOR has confirmed

Two of those who died belonged to the Italian Armed Forces and two to the Italian Military Red Cross, according to the October 29 statement from EUFOR’s Public Affairs Office. The statement does not identify the individuals.

Two injured personnel were transferred to a medical facility in Tuzla for further treatment. Nine others were receiving treatment in Brčko. The mission’s statement describes the injured group as stable; that assessment is specific to the time of the announcement.

EUFOR says the Italian Chinook was conducting routine training when it crashed. The latest statement does not give a precise crash time, flight itinerary, aircraft registration or a technical explanation for the accident.

Official update supersedes early casualty reports

Initial news reports carried different casualty totals while the response was developing. Flyzeu is using EUFOR’s later confirmed figures of four dead and eleven injured, rather than combining estimates from separate reports.

The mission urged the public to rely on its official channels and avoid speculation. It expressed condolences to the families and friends of those who died.

Cause and investigation questions remain open

No cause or technical finding is set out in the latest EUFOR statement reviewed for this report. The aircraft’s movements described by witnesses or shown in circulating footage do not by themselves establish why it crashed.

Flyzeu has not verified the accident helicopter’s registration or maintenance history. A general description of the CH-47 aircraft family cannot establish the history, configuration or condition of the particular helicopter involved.

The next material updates will be official information about the response, the injured personnel and the investigation. No conclusion about weather, mechanical failure or crew actions is justified by the statement reviewed here.
