WestJet and Qatar Airways announced a reciprocal codeshare on October 26, 2026, linking Canadian domestic connections with Qatar-operated flights to Doha. For passengers comparing itineraries, the immediate change is how selected journeys can be booked together, rather than a newly announced WestJet-operated route to Qatar.
Which flights does the agreement cover?
In its October 26 announcement, WestJet says it will initially put its flight code on Qatar Airways’ Toronto–Doha and Montreal–Doha services. Qatar Airways will reciprocate on selected WestJet flights connecting through those Canadian gateways.
WestJet says eligible codeshare bookings offer a single ticket, coordinated connections, through-checked bags and WestJet Rewards earning across the itinerary. John Weatherill, WestJet Group’s executive vice-president and chief commercial officer, described the agreement as an expansion of an established relationship.
Canadian connections and Doha frequencies
Qatar Airways’ own release names onward Canadian cities including Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Ottawa, Regina, Saskatoon, St. John’s and Winnipeg. Check the actual itinerary offered: the announcement does not mean every city has a nonstop flight to Doha.
Qatar Airways also says its Canadian schedule increased from 12 to 14 weekly flights from October 25, with Toronto and Montreal each served daily. That is the airline’s announced schedule, not confirmation that an individual departure has operated.
Beyond Doha: a later phase
WestJet says it plans to add its code on selected Qatar Airways destinations beyond Doha in a future phase. Its release does not give an implementation date or a complete list of those later codeshare routes. Do not assume that every onward destination is already included under a WestJet flight number.
What to check before paying
- Read the “operated by” line for each segment. The marketing airline’s code does not tell you which airline supplies the aircraft.
- Compare the full ticketed journey, connection time, baggage allowance and fare conditions, rather than only the headline price.
- Confirm rewards eligibility for the fare you select and keep the booking reference and receipt.
The practical test is the itinerary available for your dates. A partnership announcement does not establish a particular fare, seat availability or an unchanged operating schedule. For more reporting on the region, see our Canada aviation coverage.
