Alaska and Hawaiian’s Atmos Rewards adds flight-earning choices

4 Min Read

Atmos Rewards, the loyalty program for Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines, will let members choose to earn flight points and status points by distance traveled, price paid or segments flown. Members can make that choice starting Oct. 1, 2026, for flights departing on or after Jan. 1, 2027.

How flight-earning choices work

Choosing a method is optional. Current members who make no selection will continue earning based on distance traveled. Members who join on or after Jan. 1, 2027, will default to earning based on price paid. All members can change their choice once per calendar year for future travel.

The options apply to both points and status points. The airline group describes the choice as a way for members to match flight earnings to their travel patterns; the announcement does not provide earning rates for comparing the three methods.

Six Atmos Communities begin Oct. 1

Atmos Communities will expand from two resident-focused options, Club 49 and Huakaʻi by Hawaiian, to six on Oct. 1. The new Communities are Global Locals, Families on the Go, Culinary Journeys and Active Escapes. The company says the Communities will offer benefits and offers tailored to travel, residence and interests.

Listed benefits include free bags, flight deals, bonus-point challenges and partner offers. Other examples include award-flight discounts for children, bonus status points for international travel, and expanded resident benefits for Club 49 and Huakaʻi by Hawaiian. Benefits are not described as universal across all Communities.

Card plans and member benefits

Alaska plans to introduce an Atmos Rewards debit card in early 2027, with pre-registration open at atmosrewards.com/debit. The planned card is described as earning points and status points and offering a choice of designs, flight and onboard-purchase discounts, free points sharing, no foreign transaction fees, and the option to pay certain account fees with points.

In 2027, Alaska also plans to let customers with eligible Bank of America card products transfer points into Atmos Rewards. It plans to refresh the Atmos Rewards Visa Business Card, issued by Bank of America, in late 2026; the announced benefits include 10x points on eligible purchases through Atmos Rewards for Business, lounge passes and free same-day confirmed flight changes. The company said full details would be available later that fall.

From Nov. 2, Platinum and Titanium members will be able to bring eligible children and one companion into Premium Class at no charge when space is available. The announcement also describes a dedicated Titanium check-in facility in Seattle and a Titanium-exclusive offer of global upgrades to Alaska’s premium cabins as benefits already added for its most engaged members.

Monthly offers and new partners

Atmos Members Day is held on the first Wednesday of each month and is intended to provide member content, including travel offers, partner benefits, program updates and access to Atmos Unlocked experiences and Global Getaways.

The announcement names Alterra Mountain Company, Nordstrom and Pebble Beach Resorts as upcoming lifestyle partners, spanning mountain travel, destination resorts, food and wine, retail and lifestyle. It does not give dates for those collaborations. Select experiences, packages and offers may be accessed through Atmos Unlocked using points and membership.
