Lufthansa plans a new nonstop connection between Columbus, Ohio, and Frankfurt from May 2027, giving Central Ohio travelers a direct European option. The Columbus Regional Airport Authority announced the route on October 19 and said bookings would open October 20.

Three weekly flights to Frankfurt

The announced Columbus–Frankfurt schedule calls for departures on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Flights are listed to leave John Glenn Columbus International Airport at 4:20 p.m. and reach Frankfurt at 6:15 a.m., local times. That arrival is the following morning, so travelers should account for the overnight journey when arranging accommodation or onward travel.

The airport identifies the aircraft as a Boeing 787 Dreamliner with Lufthansa’s Allegris cabin experience. Its announced configuration has 28 business-class seats, 28 premium-economy seats and 231 economy seats: 287 in total. A specific aircraft registration has not been assigned in the release.

A nonstop option, not a daily service

The airport describes this as Central Ohio’s first nonstop European service. Frankfurt also offers onward connections through Lufthansa’s network. The practical benefit depends on the destination: a nonstop journey to Frankfurt and a trip connecting there should be compared separately.

With three weekly departures rather than daily flights, check both outbound and return dates before committing to hotels, events or a separate connecting ticket. A cheap itinerary with an inconvenient return day may not be the best overall option.

What to check before booking

Use Lufthansa’s booking results to verify the operating carrier, whether the itinerary is nonstop, the flight dates and the cabin offered. A general Columbus–Frankfurt search can also return connecting journeys; its presence alone does not confirm availability on the new service.

Compare the total fare, baggage terms, change conditions and connection arrangements before payment. For an onward destination, leave enough time to meet any applicable entry and transfer requirements rather than assuming every advertised connection fits your plans.

Checked October 20, 2026. The announcement is dated October 19; service is planned for May 2027. This report does not confirm a completed ticket purchase or a live fare.
