TAP Air Portugal has inaugurated its Lisbon–São Luís service, adding Maranhão’s capital to its Brazilian network. Travellers comparing tickets should check an important difference between directions: the outbound sector from Lisbon is nonstop, but the return to Lisbon includes a stop in Fortaleza.
Two weekly services with different departure days
Turismo de Portugal’s TravelBI report, dated October 28, 2026, confirms the launch and describes two weekly services using Airbus A321LR aircraft with 171 seats. It identifies São Luís as TAP’s fifteenth Brazilian destination.
The published pattern has departures from Lisbon on Mondays and Thursdays, arriving in São Luís at 12:10 a.m. the following day. Departures from São Luís are on Tuesdays and Fridays at 1:40 a.m., with a stop in Fortaleza before continuing to Lisbon. Those times are local.
The same Lisbon–São Luís–Fortaleza–Lisbon routing appeared in TAP’s February 5 launch announcement. That earlier announcement set out the planned operation; the October report describes the route as inaugurated.
Midnight arrivals and the Fortaleza stop
For a Monday departure from Lisbon, an arrival just after midnight belongs to Tuesday. Confirm the date with your accommodation provider before arranging late check-in or an airport transfer. Apply the same care to a return flight departing shortly after midnight.
Compare total journey time in each direction rather than assuming the return matches the nonstop outbound sector. Review the Fortaleza stop, any onward connection and the fare conditions in the itinerary offered by TAP or your booking agent. The published route pattern does not guarantee availability on an individual date.
