Alaska Airlines plans to begin nonstop flights between Anchorage and Tokyo Narita on May 13, 2027, using a Boeing 737 MAX 8. The airline announced the route on October 27, 2026, and says it remains subject to government approval.
The proposed service links Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport with Narita International Airport. Alaska describes it as its first nonstop Anchorage–Tokyo route, with daily summer flights and a separate winter schedule planned from January 2028.
Planned summer timetable
The airline’s published schedule shows different opening and closing dates in each direction. All times below are local.
| Route | Operating dates in 2027 | Departure | Arrival |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anchorage–Tokyo Narita | May 13–September 7 | 14:10 | 15:25 the following day |
| Tokyo Narita–Anchorage | May 14–September 8 | 21:45 | 12:00 the same calendar day |
The calendar change matters when booking accommodation and onward travel. A departure from Anchorage on May 13 reaches Japan on May 14 under this timetable. For the return, use the Anchorage arrival date shown on the ticket rather than assuming a next-day arrival.
What cabin experience is planned?
Alaska’s announcement describes recliner seats in First Class. Travellers choosing that cabin should not assume it offers a lie-flat bed simply because the route crosses the Pacific.
The airline also lists complimentary meals for Main Cabin and Premium Class. Wi-Fi availability is described as applying to select flights while installation continues, so the announcement does not guarantee a particular connection on every departure.
Other Anchorage additions
Alaska also plans Saturday flights from Anchorage to Austin, Dallas–Fort Worth and Nashville from June 12 through August 7, 2027. The announcement does not provide departure and arrival times for those three routes.
