One person sustained apparent injuries after a small aircraft made an emergency landing near Menehune Road in Waimea, on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, on Friday, October 30, 2026. The other four people aboard were uninjured, according to the County of Kauai’s preliminary account.

What officials have confirmed

The county’s October 30 release says fire crews received the report shortly before 9 a.m. local time. Rescuers freed the injured passenger from the aircraft and carried the person out on a litter. Fire, police, ambulance and airport rescue personnel responded.

The Federal Aviation Administration’s October 30 statement identifies the aircraft as a Gippsland GA-8 and says it crashed in a field around 9 a.m. with five people aboard. The FAA says it will investigate.

Timeline and investigation

The county added a response photograph in a 2:10 p.m. update on October 30. Its release asked the public to avoid the response area while crews were working; it does not establish whether that restriction remains in place.

Neither cited statement establishes the cause, the aircraft’s registration, its operator or its route. The preliminary accounts may change as investigators obtain further evidence. No cause or connection to previous safety events has been established.
