Air Astana has started introducing satellite Wi-Fi on its Airbus A321LR aircraft, with the first connected flight operating from Almaty to Tashkent on October 29, 2026. The initial aircraft is registered EI-KGB, according to the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan’s October 29 announcement.
The service is being introduced in stages. A ticket on Air Astana, or even an A321LR booking, should therefore not be treated as confirmation that internet access will be available.
Who gets free internet?
The introductory offer provides complimentary internet to all passengers on equipped aircraft through January 31, 2027. The Kazakh digital development ministry’s dated statement sets out different eligibility from February 1:
- Business-class passengers and Nomad Club Gold and Diamond members will retain complimentary Wi-Fi.
- Nomad Club members across all tiers will have free messaging.
- Other passengers will be able to buy internet packages.
The announcements do not specify package prices, a guaranteed connection speed or a flight-by-flight availability list. Free messaging should also be distinguished from unrestricted internet access when comparing the future benefits.
One aircraft first, more during 2027
The aviation authority says Air Astana is working with satellite communications provider SES. The airline’s own engineering team is installing the equipment at its technical base, with A321LR retrofits continuing in phases during 2027.
For passengers, the useful distinction is between the service’s launch and its availability on a particular flight. Travellers who need to work online should confirm connectivity for their intended departure with the airline and keep essential documents available offline. The October 29 launch establishes that the first equipped aircraft has flown; it does not establish that every Almaty–Tashkent departure or the entire airline fleet now has Wi-Fi.
