Hawaiian check-in guidance for Neighbor Island trips now deserves a closer look before you head to the airport. The airline’s September 18 notice set an October 3, 2026 change to a 50-minute check-in and checked-bag cutoff, alongside separate Honolulu lobby instructions for international departures.
This is a practical guide to that published notice, not a newly announced change today. Check your current itinerary for any later instructions.
Hawaiian check-in: the cutoff and lobby changes
| Journey | What the airline’s notice says |
|---|---|
| Neighbor Island flights | Complete check-in and checked-bag drop at least 50 minutes before departure, replacing the previous 30-minute cutoff. |
| Neighbor Island departure from Honolulu | Terminal 1, Lobby 3 remains the check-in and bag-drop location for Boeing 717 and 737 flights. |
| Kahului to Honolulu on a Boeing 737 | Use Alaska’s counters beside Hawaiian’s for check-in services and bag drop. |
| Hawaiian international departure from Honolulu | The notice moves check-in and bag drop to Terminal 2, Lobby 4. |
Plan around completion, not airport arrival
A cutoff is the latest time to finish the required task, not a suggested time to enter the terminal. Allow additional time for traffic, counter queues, security and the walk to your gate. If you are comparing a connection or arranging transport, work backward from the departure time and leave a buffer.
The announcement also scheduled supplemental Alaska Boeing 737-800 flights between Honolulu and Kahului from October 3. It did not describe an immediate replacement of the entire Hawaiian 717 operation. Aircraft type is shown during booking; check the operating airline and aircraft on your own reservation.
Before leaving home, confirm the airport, terminal and lobby shown on the latest trip information. A domestic Neighbor Island journey and an international departure do not use the same Honolulu lobby instructions. If the itinerary differs from this guide, ask the airline to clarify before choosing your drop-off point.
