Travellers using Osorno’s Cañal Bajo aerodrome in southern Chile should check their arrangements against a planned operational closure from November 2 to November 22, 2026. The regional transport information service says runway conservation work is the reason for the restriction.
Two phases of restrictions
The October 23 notice from Transporte Informa Los Lagos sets out a full operational closure for November 2–22. It then lists preventive partial closures from November 23 to December 6, between 5 p.m. and 7 a.m. the following morning, with daytime operations available in that second phase.
These are the published work dates and operating windows. They are not a guarantee that a particular airline flight will operate, or an independently observed confirmation of the runway’s status at this moment.
Alternative airports to check
The transport service points Santiago-bound travellers to El Tepual Airport at Puerto Montt and Pichoy aerodrome in the Los Ríos region. Check flight availability, ground transfers and any booking changes with the airline or travel agent before travelling to another airport.
