AirAsia targets flights to Bahrain by March 2027, conditions permitting. Its November 1 statement also announces a non-executive board for the Bahrain venture.
In the company statement, Tony Fernandes says regional geopolitical conditions have altered the initial plans; the target is conditional.
What the March 2027 target means for travellers
The release gives no passenger city pairs, flight frequencies or fares. A target month is different from a confirmed departure date. Before building a trip around the proposal, check for an actual operating schedule, available tickets and the conditions attached to the booking.
For journeys requiring a connection, compare the operating airline, connection time and protection offered by a through ticket. Avoid treating a hub announcement as confirmation that a particular onward journey is available.
A non-executive board for the Bahrain venture
Dr. Serra Kirdar chairs the seven-member board, with Dato’ Fam Lee Ee as vice chairman. All are non-executive directors.
Cargo operations and maintenance plans are separate
Capital A chief executive Fernandes says Teleport has operated twice-weekly Bahrain freighters since February 2026 and is increasing capacity with larger aircraft. Cargo operations are separate from the proposed passenger launch.
Capital A also intends to develop maintenance, repair and overhaul capabilities through Asia Digital Engineering. No facility opening date is specified.
