Boeing forecasts a worldwide fleet of 4,010 freighters by 2045, compared with 2,395 in 2025. Its October 28, 2026 announcement sets out demand for 2,930 new-build and converted cargo aircraft over the next two decades.
Conversions account for most projected deliveries
About two-thirds of those deliveries would be passenger-aircraft conversions; the remainder would be newly manufactured freighters. Boeing expects approximately 55% to support growth and 45% to replace older aircraft.
The manufacturer projects annual air-cargo traffic growth of 3.5%, with flows involving Asia accounting for around 60% of the market. It identifies e-commerce, shifting supply chains and time-sensitive technology shipments as demand drivers.
A market forecast, not an aircraft order
Released at the Air Cargo Forum in Miami, the outlook describes Boeing’s expectations for the global industry. It does not announce that airlines have ordered 2,930 aircraft from Boeing or identify a confirmed delivery timetable.
Long-term demand projections also do not establish whether any particular factory is currently producing aircraft. Flyzeu’s separate report on the reported 777 freighter production interruption addresses that different question.
