Singapore Airlines has signed an agreement to buy up to 4,800 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel from Aether Beacon over three years, with deliveries planned to begin in 2028. The October 28 announcement moves the partnership into a purchase agreement while the Singapore production facility is still being developed.

Future supply from Project Beacon

CNA’s October 28 report on the joint announcement says the fuel will come from Project Beacon on Pulau Bukom. SIA is the first airline to buy fuel from the facility, according to the companies. Aether co-founder and chief executive Conor Madigan described the agreement as binding.

The proposed feedstocks include biomethane and industrial waste gases. Aether’s Aurora technology converts waste carbon into aviation fuel, providing an alternative to the oils-and-fats feedstocks used by the HEFA production pathway.

Demonstration results preceded the deal

In a September 29 technical announcement, Aether said an integrated demonstration line in North Carolina had produced synthetic jet fuel meeting ASTM D7566 specifications. It combined the company’s 2.5-barrel-per-day equipment with an existing Fischer–Tropsch reactor at RTI International.

Aether said third-party testing by AmSpec confirmed that the samples met the applicable specification. That announcement concerned demonstration equipment and technical validation for Project Beacon; it did not establish that the Singapore commercial plant had begun supplying airlines.

What the agreement means

The purchase commitment concerns future fuel supply. The reported quantity is an upper limit across three years, and the announced delivery start is 2028. No specific flight, aircraft registration or passenger itinerary is identified for the fuel in the announcement.
