Boston MedFlight orders three Airbus H145 helicopters

Boston MedFlight has ordered three Airbus H145 helicopters for its New England critical-care transport network, Airbus announced on October 27, 2026. The aircraft are intended for both replacement and incremental fleet growth over the coming years.

The order brings the number of H145s the nonprofit has purchased over time to 12. That is a cumulative purchasing figure, rather than a statement that 12 are currently operating.

What the new helicopters will support

According to Airbus’s dated announcement, the aircraft will support transfers between healthcare facilities and transport from emergency scenes. The manufacturer says Boston MedFlight currently operates an all-Airbus fleet.

Boston MedFlight chief executive Maura Hughes said the H145 provides the cabin space and flexibility needed to carry clinical equipment while medical teams care for patients in transit. Her comments were published in Airbus’s announcement.

Delivery and deployment details remain limited

The announcement describes additions over the coming years but gives no individual delivery dates, aircraft registrations or base assignments. It also does not specify how many of the three aircraft will replace existing helicopters and how many will add to the operating fleet.

The order therefore should not be read as confirmation that three additional helicopters are already available for emergency missions. Specific deployment and service-entry announcements would be needed to establish that.

Five-bladed H145 configuration

Airbus describes the latest H145 as a twin-engine helicopter with a five-bladed bearingless main rotor. The manufacturer says that rotor adds 150 kg of useful load compared with the previous configuration. The aircraft uses Safran Arriel 2E engines, Helionix avionics and a four-axis autopilot.

The fleet update is separate from Life Flight Network’s order for five H135 helicopters, announced a day earlier for a different operator and aircraft type.

Reporting note: Order and product details are attributed to Airbus. No purchase price or firm delivery timetable was disclosed in the announcement reviewed.
