Travellers driving to Montevideo’s Carrasco International Airport should allow extra time around Pope Leo XIV’s arrival and departure during his November 6–8 visit. Uruguay’s Interior Ministry says traffic restrictions may affect the airport access roads, the nearby air base and Avenida de las Américas as the delegation moves through the area.
When to allow extra time
Uruguay’s official itinerary lists the delegation’s arrival at Carrasco for 4:30 PM on Friday, November 6, and departure for Buenos Aires at 3:30 PM on Sunday, November 8. These are local itinerary times. Police have not given fixed start and end times for the airport access restrictions in the advisory.
On Sunday afternoon police also expect brief closures on sections of Route 5 southbound, the Anillo Perimetral and Route 102 toward the airport. Check road updates before setting off and follow police directions at junctions. The notice concerns road access. Check with your airline for any changes to your flight.
