An Indian tourist died and a New Zealander was injured when two helicopters collided while preparing to land in Nepal’s Mount Everest region on Tuesday, November 3, according to Reuters reporting published by CNA.
The aircraft were operated by Fishtail Air and Air Dynasty. Solukhumbu chief district officer Kaman Singh Thapa Magar told Reuters that the injured New Zealander had been rescued.
Passenger and cargo flights
Fishtail Air said in a statement reported by Reuters that its helicopter was carrying people rescued from the Everest region and crashed during landing. An airline official described its two foreign passengers as tourists. An Air Dynasty official said the other helicopter carried cargo only.
The collision occurred at Pheriche, a mountain settlement used by trekkers, during Nepal’s autumn trekking season.
What remains unconfirmed
The cause has not been established. This initial report does not identify a pilot, assign responsibility or infer the landing sequence from circulating video. Early reports differ on some injury and crew details; a complete reconciled account is still needed.
Travelers with helicopter arrangements in the Everest region should check the status of their own flight directly with the operator. The accident alone does not establish a region-wide flight suspension.
