United’s announced schedule lists 10 new international destinations for 2027: eight routes from Newark, one from San Francisco, and one from Washington Dulles. Service is planned to begin between March and June 2027. United says it would be the only U.S. airline flying nonstop to eight of those cities. All new routes are subject to government approval.
Ten new cities, with eight routes from Newark

United’s schedule lists ten proposed nonstop routes to cities it does not currently serve, with service due to begin between March and June 2027. Seven depart from Newark, one from San Francisco and one from Washington Dulles; the tenth is also a Newark departure. The airline says eight of the ten destinations have no nonstop service from any other U.S. airline. All the new routes are subject to government approval.
The schedule starts with San Francisco–Okinawa on March 27, three times weekly on a Boeing 777-200ER. Newark–Luxembourg follows on April 2, daily on an Airbus A321XLR, and Washington Dulles–Toulouse is listed from April 26, also daily on an A321XLR.
Newark–Ljubljana is scheduled from May 12, four times weekly on a Boeing 767-400ER. Newark–Olbia, on Sardinia, starts May 27, three times weekly on a Boeing 767-300ER; Newark–Catania, in Sicily, follows on May 28, four times weekly on the same aircraft type.
The remaining Newark routes are Ibiza from May 31, four times weekly on an A321XLR; Valencia from June 2, three times weekly on an A321XLR; Marseille from June 4, daily on an A321XLR; and Terceira, in Portugal’s Azores, from June 9, three times weekly on a Boeing 737 MAX 8. United identifies itself as the only U.S. airline with nonstop service to Okinawa, Luxembourg City, Toulouse, Ljubljana, Ibiza, Valencia, Marseille and Terceira.
Three routes add service to existing destinations

Separate from the ten new cities, United plans to add Los Angeles–Osaka, Washington, D.C.–Milan and Denver–Paris. These are new routes for the airline, not new destinations on its network.
Los Angeles–Osaka is scheduled to begin March 27 with daily service. United says it would become the only airline serving Osaka from two continental U.S. cities. The airline already serves Osaka from San Francisco and Guam.
Washington, D.C.–Milan is planned to start May 28, with three flights a week. United says it would be the only airline connecting the U.S. capital with Milan nonstop, and that it would serve more Italian destinations nonstop from the United States than any other airline.
Denver–Paris is scheduled to begin May 27, with daily nonstop flights. United says the route would join its existing Paris service from Newark/New York, Washington Dulles, Chicago and San Francisco.
San Francisco–Tel Aviv is a resumption
United plans to restart San Francisco–Tel Aviv service on March 28, at three flights a week. Unlike the three routes above, this is a return of service on an existing United route, not a new destination or route announcement. The airline says the service will offer more business-class seats between the two cities than any other airline. The announcement does not explain when or why the route stopped operating.
Four summer destinations return for 2027
United also says it will bring back the destinations it added for summer 2026 for summer 2027: Split, Croatia; Bari, Italy; Glasgow, Scotland; and Santiago de Compostela, Spain. These are returning seasonal destinations, distinct from the ten newly announced cities. The announcement gives no launch dates, frequencies or aircraft for these four services.
A321XLR brings a new cabin to five routes
United says its “Born to Explore” Airbus A321XLR will operate Newark–Luxembourg, Washington Dulles–Toulouse, Newark–Ibiza, Newark–Valencia and Newark–Marseille. The airline describes the A321XLR as a single-aisle aircraft intended for international service. Its announced cabin has 32 premium seats: 20 United Polaris suites and 12 United Premium Plus seats. United says that is 16 more premium seats than on its Boeing 757-200.
The cabin features Polaris suites with privacy doors, 4K OLED screens with Bluetooth connectivity, and free Starlink Wi-Fi for MileagePlus members. In United Economy, the aircraft will have a snack bar. The new Economy Plus seats are described as offering extra elbow room and access to a shared table across an open middle seat. United expects to be the only major U.S. airline to offer that seating arrangement.
The airline says the A321XLR is scheduled to begin flying selected domestic routes in September 2026, then enter international service on December 1, initially on Washington Dulles–Amsterdam and Washington Dulles–Dublin. United said tickets for those first international flights would go on sale August 27. The announcement does not report whether that sale began as planned.
What United says about its network
United says it has added 58 international destinations to its route map since 2017 and now serves more than 160 international destinations. It also describes itself as the world’s largest airline by available seat miles and says it offers the most flights and seats from the United States across the Atlantic and Pacific. These are company-reported comparisons in the announcement, not independently verified findings.
At the Newark event announcing the expansion, CEO Scott Kirby credited the airline’s international growth since the pandemic with differentiating United and described Newark as a key Atlantic gateway. Patrick Quayle, senior vice president of global network planning and alliances, said the airline aims to serve business, leisure and family travel through its route network. The announcement does not provide route-level demand forecasts or fares; its schedule table supplies the launch dates, frequencies and aircraft for the ten new-city routes.
