Air New Zealand’s seasonal non-stop flights between Hobart and Auckland resumed on October 25, with Hobart Airport outlining a three-year plan to expand the connection between Tasmania and New Zealand.

In its October 25 announcement, the airport said the plan includes more capacity and a longer operating season, supported by the Tasmanian Government’s Aviation Attraction Fund. These are seasonal growth commitments; the announcement does not establish a year-round timetable.

More flights during the peak period

The state government’s September 18 schedule announcement set out three flights a week for most of the season and a fourth weekly flight between February 27 and March 20. It described plans for up to 170 flights and more than 33,000 seats over the season, representing 28 per cent more capacity than the previous comparable period.

Border processing at Hobart

Hobart Airport said passengers on the returning October 25 service were the first to use its larger international screening and border-processing facility, including Australian Border Force passport control.

The airport also highlighted onward travel through Auckland. Passengers should check their airline’s current timetable, connection and baggage arrangements for their individual itinerary; the airport’s growth announcement is not a guarantee that every onward journey has identical handling.

The route gives Tasmania a direct international connection without a domestic transfer through Melbourne or Sydney.
