A pilot has died following a light-aircraft crash at an airstrip at Wanaaring in remote north-western New South Wales, NSW Police said in an October 29, 2026 statement.
Police said they were called at about 1:30 p.m. on October 29 to the airstrip, approximately 190 kilometres north-west of Bourke. Officers and emergency-service crews found a crashed light aircraft. The pilot, a man believed to be in his 60s, was found dead at the scene.
Police response and investigation
NSW Police said a crime scene had been established for specialist examination and a report would be prepared for the coroner. Its statement says the Australian Transport Safety Bureau is investigating.
The statement does not identify an aircraft type, registration or operator, or establish the cause of the crash. It does not confirm a total number of occupants. Those details should not be inferred from the reported death of the pilot.
